The Eye of the Teacher: Advanced Teacher Training w/ Alex Auder

Join Alex, one of America's most influential teachers (sonima.com),  at her lovely studio for this 50 hour Advanced Teacher Training, in which she will share her 20 years of teaching experience with you.

Every other weekend during May & June of 2016 (4 weekends in total).  $1,000

Who is this for?
*Those of you (with some exceptions) who have already completed a 200 hour TT.
*Those of you have completed a 500 hour TT.
*Those of you have been teaching for a long time, but desire a shift in perspective.
*Those of you who want to evolve from leading a class to thoroughly instructing a class.
*Those of you interested in Vedanta and how it can be threaded into your group classes.
*Those of you who are serious students,  have been practicing for a few years, don’t necessarily want to teach, but are interested in a nuanced approach to technique, alignment, the thought process that goes into teaching and sequencing, and the study of Vedanta.  (But you will still be asked to practice teach with the rest of us).
*Those of you who, no matter how much or how little teaching experience you have, are willing to regularly “practice” teach for the group, to be open to constructive criticism, to be open to new techniques, to share your own ideas with us, and to have progressive critical discussions about all of the topics listed above and below.

What you will work on:
    *Refining your language.
*Developing your voice to articulate its most genuine & creative state.
*Learning sets of repeated sequences that develop and serve proper alignment within your student body.
*Wise hands-on assists that adapt to all body types.
*Gracefully weaving into your classe pragmatic Dharma and/or Vedantic Philosophy.          ...And, most importantly, developing The Eye of the Teacher...

What is "developing the Eye of the Teacher"?
One of the major differences between a new teacher and an experienced teacher is that over years upon years of observing bodies in movement, the experienced teacher begins to see the common, repetitive "mistakes" the majority of students make.
Some of these are simple beginner mistakes (not rooting the hands in Downward Dog); some are common, yet still go uncorrected in the experienced student (dropping the shoulder heads in Chaturanga); and some are more complex and harder to spot as they are cloaked by the "advanced" student's ability to compensate (overly pulling the scapula down the back while the arms are over head, letting the hip sockets spit the femur heads out to find a "deeper" crescent lunge, are a couple of examples).
It's a wicked skill to be able to teach a whole student body to preserve their joints, find skeletal alignment, and open from the lungs and bellies of their muscles.  And, together, that’s what we will work on.

Topics Include:
*Observing bodies, learning to categorize the patterns presented, and spotting and naming the most common mistakes/mis-alignments in both advanced and beginner students.
*Teaching in the most efficient way to prevent these mistakes through clear and precise verbal instruction that targets these issues before they become an issue.
*Thorough, safe, clear, and efficient hands-on assists designed to clean these issues up and to communicate that which can not be communicated through words.
*Developing transitioning techniques to preserve our students bodies through the wear and tear of a consistent Vinyasa yoga practice-- from stepping forward to lung to floating into a handstand.
*What does alignment mean?
*Why should we teach alignment and what kind of alignment should we teach?
* "Anatomy in Action” w/ guest teachers Nikki Vilella (co-director of Kula Yoga Project) & Lauren Haythe.
*What does it mean to have integrity and authenticity? How do we find our place as teachers within the commodified world of yoga.
*What is Vedanta and how does it apply to Hatha Yoga?
